Bromley 

Starting out with humble beginnings as a market town (indeed the heart of the town is Market Square), Bromley is today a large retail hub, rivalled only by nearby Croydon. The opening of it's two railway stations in the 19th century made Bromley a popular residential destination for it's close proximity and easy transport links into London, and today this proximity makes Bromley an ideal place for a quick shopping excursion from the hustle and bustle of central London, for it offers all you could want. From Market Square you can walk down the pedestrianised High Street at any pace you wish, where you'll find many popular high street names. A big attraction for all you shopping guru's will be the Glades Shopping Centre; a huge self-contained shopping centre which, once you're in, you probably won't want to leave as you'll have not much need to, except maybe to cross the road for a film or a play. In days gone by you may have seen the author H. G. Wells stroll by, or pass a public house mentioned in Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, but nowadays you'll need to look closely to find evidence of Bromley's history, a lot of it being built over. You can still see glimpses of Victorian life here and there, like in the architecture of the aforementioned Market Square, but much of the shopping area does now have a semi-contemporary feel. In short, Bromley is a family-friendly suburban shopping town, with plenty to do, see and buy for a good day out shopping.
