London Bridge 

People visiting London Bridge and expecting to see two looming towers at either end of an exquisitely designed bascule bridge will be sorely disappointed, as many do confuse London's Tower Bridge with this, London Bridge, which is not one of London's most glamorous bridges. So called because it was the first Bridge to be built over the Thames in the immediate area of London back in the days of sandals and wooden chalices, its current incarnation is obviously not its only, and many bridges have bored the name, each replacing the last and being built on its present site or extremely close to it. But enough of the history lesson, because historic though the area is, what we care about is what we can do there. London Bridge is probably most famous for its Borough Market - Borough being the neighbouring area but often referred to or thought of as London Bridge, either mistakenly or otherwise. The market is certainly one of the best in London if food rather than clothes and home ware is what you're after, but more about that on our Borough Market map. London Bridge has become a small trendy hotspot, and while the main street offers little in the way of clothes shops and department stores, you will find a delightful range of pubs, bars and restaurants to spend some quality time in. Having a high turnover with regard to property (one of the highest turnovers in London), you'll find a few estate agents around here, and while on one side you have the gateway to the historic and fabulous back streets of the Borough Markets, on the other you'll find Duke Street Hill with both the London Dungeon and the London Bridge Experience. Both bring to life London's historic past with a focus on the horrific, and both employing gloriously made-up actors streaked with blood beckoning you in. For a quick fix of shopping delights you have the Hay's Galleria on the same street, and you'll also find one of London's new bicycle parks here serving the busy London Bridge underground and train station.
